Nicole Scherzinger and Lewis Hamilton have broken up...again.
E! News confirms that the pop star, 36, and the British Formula One racing driver, 30, called it quits. The exes began dating in 2007, and in the years that followed, they separated and reconciled multiple times. "It was a mutual decision. The long distance kept them apart for long periods of time," a source tells the U.K.'s The Daily Mail. "They both spent most of their time alone because they were in different countries all the time. Nicole is heartbroken and devastated." Scherzinger, who currently stars in London's West End revival of Andrew Lloyd Weber's musical Cats, primarily resides in L.A., while Lewis is based in Monaco.
Is it possible the former couple might reconcile? "It's been seven years now, and it's always the same reason that splits them up," an insider tells The Daily Mail. "Love always brings them back together."
Meanwhile, a source tells The Sun that Scherzinger "finally had enough" and initiated the breakup. "Nicole knew Lewis had no plans to marry her. She's completely gutted and feels lost about her future."
NEWS: Nicole Scherzinger opens up about her "good and bad days"
In December, Hamilton discussed their future. "We're in a good place. She's such a hard worker, and we inspire each other. But I don't think we've ever really discussed marriage. We're very much aware of the time together, and how precious time is," he told The Sunday Times Style magazine. "I think naturally, at some stage, that becomes a step. But we're trying to support each other while we do things we love."
That same month, Hamilton admitted to E! News that he was "feeling pressure" from family members to propose. "But Nicole's massively focused on her work the same as I am. We're happy just way we are."
Apparently not, as distance has always been an issue for the two.
NEWS: Nicole Scherzinger wishes she were more "slutty"
In October 2012, the Pussycat Dolls' former lead singer opened up to The Sun about her relationship with Hamilton. "I wouldn't wish a long-distance relationship on anyone. Lewis would say the same," Scherzinger said. "But if it's worth it, you fight for it. We try to see each other as much as possible."
The "Don't Hold Your Breath" singer went into further detail about her romance with Hamilton when she appeared on the cover of Cosmopolitan U.K. in August 2014. "Trust and communication are key," Scherzinger explained. "Me and Lewis are from similar upbringings, so we share a similar outlook. We're kindred spirits and hearts—that's what ultimately connects us. Ultimately, you want to be with someone you can be yourself around. My grandma taught me the person you want to be with isn't going to be Prince Charming—it's going to be the person you're going to be able to work on a relationship with."
