The Federal Road Safety Commission has
called on all vehicle owners to pay attention to the condition of their
vehicle’s tyres more than ever before.
According to the Head Media Relations and Strategy of the Corps, Bisi Kazeem,
“some tyres are expired, some are substandard products, some are
under-inflated, some are over-inflated, and some have been handled
wrongly by vulcanizers.” He also said that tyre burst is one of the
factors responsible for Road Traffic Crashes.
Kazeem also said that the increasingly
hot weather conditions have significant effect on the tyres, hence
motorists should always drive below the speed limit.
He advised that given the conditions of
the roads and the possibilities that a few tyres may be substandard and
fast wearing out, some expired, and some not installed rightly, the
Corps expects motorists to drive carefully to help save lives and
properties.
This is coming after an auto crash,
reported to have been caused after one of the vehicle’s tyre burst,
claimed the lives of six doctors and a driver en route Sokoto for the
Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Medical Association.
