A HERO student charged at the US college gunman in a bid to save his classmates — but was blasted with bullets five times.
Army veteran Chris Mintz, 30, is fighting for his life after being shot multiple times by deranged killer Chris Harper-Mercer.
Brave Chris sprang into action following the shooting at Umpqua Community College which left at least ten people dead.
His cousin Derek Bourgeois told how Chris faced down the attacker during the bloody rampage in a bid to save others.

He said: “I’m told he went after the shooter.
“There was no way he was going to stand around and watch something horrific happen.”
Derek, who lives in North Carolina, said despite Chris being shot five times, none of his vital organs were hit and he is expected to pull through.
But he was blasted in both legs and may have to learn to walk again.
His aunt, Wanda, said: “He could have very easily died. I really think that if he wasn’t such a strong, young guy, he may have died.

Family members said Chris had been in the army for ten years and had moved to Oregon from North Carolina to help raise his son Tyrik, who turned six yesterday.
According to reports in the US, he was heard saying, “It’s my son’s birthday” as he lay injured on the floor.
And in a Facebook post last month, Chris wrote: “Why waste time wondering when I can enjoy my time experiencing life.
“Memories are what makes life worth living, even the bad ones bring you the ability to love the good ones.
“So if you’re lucky, you’ll find the stars in your life and make a lifetime of one of a kind memories.”
