The Lagos State Public Works Corporation has commenced the maintenance of roads across the states under its ‘Operation fix all potholes’.
The General Manager of the corporation, Mr. Ayotunde Sodeinde, said the aim was to rid all roads across the state of potholes in order to enhance hitch-free vehicular movement.
Sodeinde said the programme was part of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s initiative to address the deplorable state of roads in the state.
According to him, roads in the metropolis are fast becoming death traps and the present administration will leave no stone unturned to tackle the problem.
He said, “Operation fix the potholes is a continuous exercise, which will cover all roads irrespective of them being federal or state roads.
“The corporation has been maintaining federal roads in the past, it will still continue to do so; our main objective is to make roads in the state pothole free, so as to ease vehicular movement and also to reduce the stress frequently experienced on Lagos roads as a result of heavy traffic situation.”
Sodeinde added that the corporation had maintained about 192 roads in the last four months under the present administration.
The general manager, who also inspected the ongoing rehabilitation of a bad portion on Metal Box Road, off ACME Road in Ogba, said the maintenance work on the road, measuring about 320 metres long and 16 metres in width, was long overdue.
He appealed to motorists plying the road to bear with the state government, adding that the work would be completed by November.
Sodeinde also cautioned residents of the state to desist from habits such as dumping of refuse in drains, pouring of petroleum products on and cooking on the roads, among others, as these were capable of causing untimely damage of the roads.
