Nigeria House of Assembly complex, AbujaAllow me a space in your widely read newspaper to voice what has been troubling my mind before it is too late for the Nigerian populace to know that they are wasting resources on the payment of allowances and salaries of senators and members of the House of Representatives as well as House of Assembly members who ordinarily should serve their fatherland wholeheartedly as good citizens of the country.

First, it bears noting that we are all born equally but not equally talented. Members of the various legislative houses as well as other political office holders were born as others but God gave them the chance to rule over others. Sadly, politicians have become self-centred and instead of serving their fatherland with dignity, it is the opposite we are experiencing.

These people are supposed to deliberate on the way forward for Nigerian people, instead, they are busy deliberating on their allowances and how to make themselves more comfortable at the expense of the populace. May I ask them this question: Are Nigerians to equip their wardrobes for them? Before they were elected, were they not wearing dresses or are they naked after their election? Nigerians’ hope is that politicians will do better than military boys but the opposite is now the case.

However, as for me, I do not think these politicians have come to serve the nation rather they have come to serve their personal interest by voting huge sums of money for themselves while they maintain that N18,000 only is too much as minimum wage per month.

When these politicians were campaigning, they promised to serve their fatherland. Is this the way to serve the nation?

I hope that our politicians should be more conscious in spending Nigerian resources for the growth of the Nigerian people. It is worthy of note that about 90 per cent of Nigerians are dying of hunger daily while others are wallowing in abject poverty.

I am pleading with President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene by checking this abnormal spending before it is too 1ate. Please, reduce lawmakers’ allowances and salaries.

Nigerians want a change in action and performance not by words of mouth.

A word is enough for the wise.
