A BRITISH girl has fallen pregnant aged just 12 and the dad-to-be faces life in prison for the sexual offence, which is considered rape as the girl is under 13.
A schoolgirl, from the Lenadoon area in Belfast, has allegedly fallen pregnant after having sex with a 19-year-old man.
The young girl could become one of Britain’s youngest mums if she sees out the pregnancy - and her family are said to be in shock.
Police have confirmed that the 19-year-old has been arrested after the pregnancy was reported to them.
He has been questioned over the alleged sexual offence but has been released on bail, pending further inquiries.
And because she is under 13, the maximum sentence he may face if convicted is life imprisonment.
A PSNI spokesman said: “Police arrested a 19-year-old man in the West Belfast area on Thursday October 1 in relation to a sexual offence. The man has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.”
It’s believed Britain’s youngest mum is a teenager who gave birth last April when she was just 12 years and three months.
The girl fell pregnant by her 13-year-old boyfriend and the pair are believed to be Britain’s youngest parents.
