THE grieving daughter of a British businessman murdered in India has told how officials sent the wrong body back to the UK.
Millionaire hotel owner Ranjit Singh Power, 54, of Wolverhampton, West Mids, was last seen at an airport in Amritsar, Punjab, on May 8.
Three weeks later, a body was found in a woodland canal which a family friend identified as being that of Mr Power.
Darshan Singh, Mr Power’s friend, said the corpse was in poor condition, but was the right height and wore “exactly the same bangle” as the businessman.
But his daughter Emma Power last night told how the body that was brought to the UK was not that of her dad because the dental records and DNA did not match up.
Her father’s body has still not been found.
She said: “The DNA of my grandmother has not been sent to India as requested, because we found out that the body was not my father’s so it was no longer necessary.
“We believe the body that was brought to the UK is now the responsibility of the coroner.”
Taxi driver Sukhdev Singh was charged with murdering the dad of two after apparently confessing.
