A BOY of six and his nine-year-old pal have been quizzed by cops on over a £10,000 arson at Asda.

The boys are thought to have started a fire outside an outbuilding as they walked home from school.

Gas canisters exploded as the flames set fire to charcoal and other barbecue equipment in the building, it is believed.

Staff and shoppers were evacuated from parts of the giant superstore complex at Astley Bridge, near Bolton, Greater Manchester.

Witness Bill Glancy said: “The fire was horrendous. The staff from the supermarket came out with fire extinguishers and made everybody get back.

“There was lots of black smoke everywhere. The building isn’t that far from the petrol station. It was really scary.

“All of a sudden there was an explosion and the whole building was alight.

” Another eyewitness said: “They were worried more canisters might explode.

”No one was hurt in the blaze, which took around an hour to put out.

Police are believed to have spoken to the boys’ families but can take no further action as the children are under ten, the age of criminal responsibility.

In tweets and Facebook posts, the force said: “You will have probably seen the arson over at ASDA yesterday.

“9 and 6 year old have been identified in relation to this, £10000 worth of dmg.”
