Just another of the many companies under Google? No, the exact opposite. Alphabet is a new umbrella company that is a collection of other companies, including Google.
Larry Page will act as CEO of Google’s new parent company, with Sergey Brin as President. As for Google? It is getting slimmed down a bit, with Life Sciences (a company that focuses on glucose-sensing contact lens), Calico (focused on longevity) and some of the other “way out in left field” projects moving under Alphabet’s wings. Yes, that means X Labs is also now under Alphabet and not directly associated with Google.
Google will remain focused on Internet products, Android, and other Google-y things with Sundar Pichai now moving into the position of CEO of Google itself. For those wondering, YouTube will remain a semi-independent part of Google as well, with Susan Wojcicki in charge as its CEO. Google is not a conventional company. We do not intend to become one. – Larry Page.

So why rebrand now? Basically, Google has grown into a giant monster. The idea is that restructuring will allow for better organization, with each company under Alphabet having its own “strong CEO who runs each business” with Sergey and Page “in service to them as needed”. In many ways, the new company will operate similar to the old one, but with more defined lines, better accountability, and more comprehensive structure. Alphabet Inc. will also replace Google Inc. as the publicly traded entity, and all shares of Google will convert into the same number of shares of Alphabet.
Obviously this a huge shake-up and totally unexpected. We’ll be sure to bring you more details as this story develops, as well as some reactions to how the creation of Alphabet changes the company’s structure and identity going forward. For those that want to do a bit more digging, Alphabet has already launched an official website, though there’s not much to see just yet.
What do you think of this massive news? New: How to Set Up a Local Web Server on Android

As web developers, we often find the need to debug and test our websites or applications on the go and need to add a bit of flexibility to our workflow that will increase productivity. Last year i posted on How to Turn Your S60 To Web Hosting / Server Using PAMP…
If you fancy running a web server right from your Android device, you should definitely take a look at the KSWEB web server for Android.
It includes:

lighttpd server v1.4.35 (SSL)

nginx v1.7.3 (SSL)

PHP v5.6.2 (SSL)

MySQL v5.6.19

msmtp v1.4.32

Web Interface v1.2

Installation

Head over to Google Play Store and KSWEB. It offers a six-day trial so you can test its features after which you will be prompted to purchase the application for $2.99.

Configure the web server
Once you launch the application, the server is started, and you can navigate to “localhost:8080″ on your Android device browser or the IP Address provided by KSWEB on your external machine. Go to phpMyAdmin and create a database for the installation.
5. Visit your WordPress installation page at “http://localhost:8080/wordpress” on your device.
6. Install WordPress as usual.

Conclusion
Having the KSWEB server installed on your Android device is all you need to debug websites, run scripts or perhaps show a client a site under development without having online hosting.
You can also install your favorite tools, frameworks or CMS, such as WordPress, Drupal, Joomla and more through much the same process as highlighted above.
Have you used KSWEB? 3 of the Best Teacher’s Apps Ever on Android & iOs

Keeping attendance records. Grading papers. Planning and preparing lessons that cover a wide range of subjects, etc. Teachers are responsible for a mega-amount of tasks and duties (too many to list here!), and before the digital age they did it manually.
Today’s educational structure is different. Technology, with all its digital wisdom, has provided tools to assist a teacher in ways that were unheard of however-many years ago. No longer does a teacher have to stay until way after everyone has gone home to grade papers; she can do it on her commute to or from school.
There are a lot of apps out there for assisting teachers with their duties. We’ve assembled three of the best ones that have gotten raving reviews from teachers (and us!) for your perusal.

1. Class Messenger

Great communication between school, parent and child is essential to your child’s education, and let’s face it: it’s not an easy feat. When a field trip is scheduled for Tuesday, and the permission slip gets left on Jack’s desk, or when it’s the fourth time in two weeks that the dog ate Jill’s homework, it’s important that everyone involved is aware of these occurrences. That’s where Class Messenger comes in. Simply put, it’s a messaging app that keeps everybody in sync all through the school year.
For teachers, this app is a great way to organize different tasks. For instance, they can keep all of their classes along with messages for each student in one place.

Parents can message the teacher and communicate with him instantly and vice versa.

Let’s say a school has a baseball team, and they need uniforms. Rather than send an order form home with each student, the teacher can message it to parents through the app and have them fill out the quantity of each item that their child needs.

A symphonic music class might be ready to have its first concert, and the teacher might want to get input as to when the best night would be to conduct it. The app can send a message home (it’s under the survey category in the app) to the parents to get their input as to when they would prefer the concert to be.

And if a parent wants to share something personal (a picture, for instance) about their child with his teacher, all they have to do is go to that part of that app, upload the picture and send it.

Both parent and teacher can send documents and multi-class messages to a group of teachers, children, and parents. Everybody has the option to block anyone as well.
Class Messenger has some new features, such as Google Drive Integration and a private communication network called Staffroom for teachers to interact with the staff or a group of teachers. It also has ‘read receipt’ built in so you can see if the recipient read your message.
This app takes care of the correspondence between parent and student that is vital on all levels; it is educational communication at its best.
Class Messenger is available for free for both Android and iOS.

2. iGradr Teacher Pocket Grader

What is one of the most important days in a semester? Report card day. And keeping track of academic as well as behavior progress for a teacher means lots of time unless they use iGradr. With this simple app teachers can calculate and grade exams, assignments, papers and tests, and create grading scales, quizzes and student or class assessments, as well.

iGradr is a brilliantly simple grading calculator app that can save loads of time for a teacher.
Free for download for Android users at the Play Store.

3. Additio

On the heels of iGradr comes Additio. While iGradr is an exceptional simple app, this app is a strong, robust app that takes grading and the execution of a teacher’s tasks to a whole new level.
When a teacher first opens Additio, he will have an overview of the week ahead of him in notes that he has prepared himself. On Monday he may have a meeting with the principal at lunch. On Thursday he will see that on Thursday he has forty minutes for grading papers at 2:15pm because the students will be at the library. Everything will be right at his fingertips.

There is also a great calendar feature that allows a teacher to plan events, monitor groups, schedule student meetings and more, and it’s all integrated with his or her personal notes. This app has a powerful note system that keeps track of every note a teacher takes from staff meetings to parent-teacher conferences. Again, everything can be integrated.

Taking attendance gives a teacher options like absent, tardiness, justification of either, and expulsion for each student. This is customizable for each student and can be accessed with one click.

There are options to easily create, import, and export reports in an Excel format. The whole app is highly customizable; a teacher can use different configuration marks and colors to coordinate anything from holidays to events to attendance. Everything about a student (files, photos, etc.) can be shared with parents via a built-in email feature. And everything in this app can be backed up in the cloud.
Additio organizes and plans a teacher’s day-to-day tasks brilliantly. It’s a must-have for a teacher’s school year.
Additio can be found for free at the Play Store and the App Store.
To give your child the best education possible is a top priority in a teacher’s life. Using one of these apps is definitely a step in the right direction.

5 Best Emulator To Run Android Apps on PC

Android is one of the most popular mobile computing operating systems and powers a diverse range of phones, including the low-end ones and the high-end flagship. The good thing about Android is that other than running it on mobile devices, it can also run on the desktop with a suitable emulator. In case you have an ancient Windows machine and want to convert it into something useful, running Android on it can give your ancient Windows machine a new lease of life.
DO You Know? You Can Also Run Android Apps in the Google Chrome Browser
There are many free Android emulators for Windows on the market but only a few of them could match up to our expectations. Listed below is a carefully curated list of Android emulators for your Windows PC.

1. Bluestacks

Bluestacks has been one of the most sought-after Android emulators thanks to its easy installation and the ability to accept third party apk’s by double clicking on them. This app supports one of the most exhaustive lists of applications and is a natural choice if you are on a quest for an Android emulator to run apps and play Android Games.

As we said earlier, Bluestacks comes packed in a single file which can be installed directly, and unlike other programs it doesn’t need a third-party virtualization tool.
We found Bluestack to be best optimised for playing games, though the UI is slightly different from any run-of-the-mill Android phone and keeps reminding you that you are using an emulator.

2. Andy

Andy OS is another Android emulator, which unlike most of other emulators on the market, offers features like touchscreen support. We need to install virtualbox in the system, and the installer file will automatically install Oracle VM, in case you don’t have it installed in your system.
The installation process can be a bit time-consuming and resource-hogging if you are using an under-specced device. Once the installation is done, it prompts a restart after which you are ready to experience Andy OS.

The best takeaway of the emulator has to be the fact that it matches up so closely with an actual Android device, and if you dig inside the settings Andy will show that it is running on Android 4.4 (a.k.a KitKat). Another good bit is that Andy OS offers a feature wherein you can use your phone as a remote control whilst playing games!

3. Genymotion

Genymotion is the best bet if you are looking for a complete Android experience. Genymotion emulator, however, needs you to not only sign up at their website but also activate your account by verifying your e-mail address. Just like Andy, Genymotion uses VirtualBox, which will be used by the emulator to create a virtual machine.

The unique feature of Genymotion emulator is that it lets you choose between a slew of Android devices, both smartphones and tablets, and then uses the Virtual Box to emulate the device. We choose HTC One running on Android KitKat 4.4.4, and we were impressed by the level of detailing. The x86-built architecture makes Genymotion faster than Bluestacks. Some of the features like Pixel perfect and Screenshots are only available in the paid version.

4. Unlike other emulators, YouWave can be installed and run in a low configuration PC without any problems. Additionally, the emulator also supports Android online multiplayer gaming, and it features an easy-to-use user interface.

Users can install apps by using apk files or by directly heading to Playstore and downloading the app. We would like to let you know that YouWave is not completely free, but the company offers a 10-day trial before you make up your mind to shell out some money.

5. Windows Android

As the name implies, this emulator is highly optimised for Windows systems. The emulator can be installed easily and the fact that it runs on Windows Kernel ensures that the emulator is speedy and it doesn’t really get hung up in the middle. Windows Android dynamically chooses the appropriate UI based on the size of the windows. The emulator also supports the use of mobile phones as controllers for the games.

Windows Android has one of the best home screens we have come across in emulators, and the UI is highly optimized for PC usage. It’s good to see the app operate at lightning fast speed without any lag whatsoever.

Conclusion
It is hard to hand pick a single winner as each emulator has its own pros and cons. I have been personally using Bluestacks for quite a while and found it to be one of the most simple yet intuitive emulators out of the lot. The fact that Bluestacks is completely free is icing on the cake for users. Bluestacks steals the crown as we found it to be extremely balanced, and it supports one of the widest ranges of Android apps. If you are a serial gamer, without any second thought, I would recommend the Windows Android emulator as it renders the best graphics without any frame drops and also lets you use the Android phone as a controller.

Which Android emulator have you used, and which one is your favorite?
