DOLLAR star David Van Day is recovering in hospital after suffering a heart attack – exactly a week after Eighties rival Pete Burns died after a cardiac arrest.
The pop pin-up, 59, was suffering with chronic chest pain for three days before wife Sue Moxley rushed him to Queen’s Hospital in Romford, Essex.
He was later moved to St Bartholomew’s Hospital in central London for treatment.
Doctors refused to let him leave after tests revealed he had a blocked artery and was suffering from cardiac arrest.
He has since had an emergency operation to have a stent put in and is now in a stable condition.
David said from his hospital last night: “Thanks for all the kind & positive messages i’ve had today i’m hoping to make a speedy recovery so thanks really appreciate your support x.”
Wife Sue this morning blamed his brush with death on his unhealthy lifestyle.
Speaking to The Sun, she said: “He’s not an alcoholic, but he admits he drinks a bit too much and eats more red meat than he should.
“It’s crazy this happened after Pete’s death.”
His sudden illness comes a week after Eighties icon Pete passed away after suffering a massive cardiac arrest at the age of 57.
David, who is 59 – just two years old than the Dead or Alive singer – made his name as a popstar in the eighties but has recently been performing at private gigs across the country.
After starting out as a vocalist in pop band Guys 'n' Dolls, David, from Essex, shot to fame as one half of the band Dollar.
During his heyday, he threw himself into the high-octane celebrity life and reportedly blew £100,000 on cocaine.
But he had a spectacular fall from grace when he declared himself bankrupt and was reduced to selling fast food in Brighton, a career move which earned him the nickname Burger Van Day.
He later re-invented himself to a reality TV personality, the highlight of which was a stint in the I'm A Celebrity jungle in 2008.
