A woman has been killed after it is believed she was hit by a Range Rover on a traffic island in London.
The horror crash happened in Commercial Road, Limehouse, just before 11.30pm last night.
It is believed the pedestrian, aged in her 30s, was stood on a traffic island in the middle of the busy road when she was struck.
Cops and paramedics rushed to the scene in Tower Hamlets but the woman was pronounced dead at midnight.
A 44-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving is being held at an east London hospital.
A Met Police spokesman said: “Next of kin have been informed. Formal identification is yet to take place.
“At this early stage of the investigation it is believed that the victim was standing on an island in the middle of the road when she was struck by a white Range Rover Sport.
The 44-year-old male driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and taken to an east London police station.
“Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit based at Chadwell Heath are investigating.
“A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.”
