A PREGNANT heroin addict has been captured overdosing on film – in a year where the addiction’s devastating consequences have been laid bare.
Footage of her distressing ordeal comes after US police forces have released images showing how the drug crushes lives and destroys families.
Nikki, whose surname has not been revealed, was a straight-A student from a privileged background.
The mum-to-be is now homeless and has had to turn to prostitution to feed her $450-a-day (around £360) heroin addiction.
Unsettling video shows troubled Nikki shooting-up as it is revealed she ploughs through a gram of heroin a day.
Her anxious mother and sister appeared on US show Dr Phil and revealed how they believed beloved Nikki will be “dead before Christmas”.
“She was beautiful, motivated, smart.
“She had everything going for her.
“She did heroin once and that was it – she was hooked.
The mum added: “Now all she seems to excel in is heroin addiction.
“She has dropped out of college and out of her family’s life.
“If things don’t change, I’m going to be visiting her at her grave.
“I feel like asking for Dr Phil’s help is the only way to save her.”
Nikki’s devastated sister Samantha said: “I think my sister died a long time ago and I now I’m just waiting for her actually die.”
Dr Phil forced the pair to watch the clip before telling them he’ll go to any lengths to help Nikki.
He even claims he will use private investigators to keep track of the her transactions, and if she scores drugs he’ll make sure she’s sent to prison where “she’ll be safer than on the streets”.
Dr Phil says: “If she gets me involved in her life on drugs, I am her worst nightmare.
“I will haunt her to the end of the world if that’s what it takes.
“And you cannot get it in my way.
“Your sister is going to be dead before Christmas unless we make a change here.”
Nikki, who is eight months pregnant, later came on stage and was asked why she takes the drug.
She tells Dr Phil: “If I knew the answer to that question I probably wouldn’t use.
“At this point now, it’s that I don’t want to get sick.
“If I had a reason why I started I probably would have avoided that reason.”
When asked why she started using, she replies: “I don’t really know. I started using a little over seven years ago with a boyfriend I was dating at the time”.
Dr Phil then explains how if she carries on using heroin her unborn baby will become addicted, before showing her video of a screaming newborn hooked on the drug.
Asked she feels about the danger, Nikki says: “Honestly I wish I found out sooner.
“I didn’t plan on having kids.”
She added: “If I was clean or stable it wouldn’t be so much of a question.
“I guess can’t take care of myself.
“I guess can’t take care of myself.
“It’s not fair to a kid or to anybody.”
Nikki and her family’s harrowing ordeal has come to light just weeks after a disturbing photos showed heroin-addicted mum Erika Hurt passed out in the front seat of a car.
Her child was in the back.
Indiana police released the image after she charged with child neglect and possession of drug paraphernalia.
In September harrowing images showed Rhonda Pasek and driver James Acord passed out in a car overdosed on heroin.
Pasek’s four-year-old son was in the back.
The image was released by cops in Ohio to highlight the horrors of heroin.
Other images from Ohio showed two heroin addicts passed out in the front a car.
They were reportedly drifting through traffic before their car came to a stop.
Shocking footage shows Taylor Swartzlander, 24, and Haley Kirkendell, unconscious after overdosing.
Another video from last month shows a distressed daughter trying to wake up her parents who are wasted on heroin.
She screams out at her spaced out mum and dad but they barely flinch.
The mum is comatose on the couch with her eyes rolling back in her head.
