Surprise results! That was what was recorded last night in the UEFA Champions League as EPL champions, Chelsea and Arsenal lost, while defending champion, Barcelona relied on a late rally to manage a win over hard fighting Bayer Leverkusen.
Arsenal playing at home fell 2-3 to Olympiakos in a match Arsene Wenger had vowed to win, while Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, got his woes compounded by his former club, Porto who recorded a 2-1 win over the Blues.
Star studded Bayern Munich however lived up to expectation at home as they recorded an emphatic 5-0 victory over Dinamo in a match Robert Lewandoski banged in a hat trick.
Leverkusen was looking good for a surprise win at Nou Camp against a Barcelona side that was without its Argentine talisman, Lionel Messi, until the 81 st minute when Sergio Roberto cancelled out Leverkusen’s Papadopounos 22nd minute lead. Two minutes after grabbing the equalizer, Luis Suarez got Barcelona’s second goal to the admiration of their fans.
With yesterday’s defeat, Arsenal’s chances of surviving the group stage now looks very slim. The Gunners had in their first game of the group bowed to Dinamo by 1-2.
