EASTENDERS star ADAM WOODYATT has told of the horrifying moment his son was run over by a car – and left fighting for his life in a coma.
The 18-year-old was flown to hospital by the Air Ambulance Service after being struck by a vehicle as he crossed a road in London on September 29.
Soap drama . . . Adam Woodyatt tells of the horrifying moment his son was run over by a car
He underwent five hours of life-saving surgery “to put him back together” and spent weeks in a wheelchair before finally walking unaided on Friday.
The accident has spurred on Adam, who plays Ian Beale in the BBC soap, to run next year’s London Marathon with Sam in aid of the Air Ambulance Service — which the pair had already planned to do before the accident.
Adam is a long-time ambassador for the service and has now written on his online JustGiving page: “We came up with the idea of him running it and me walking it, as a kind of tortoise and the hare, to show the difference in transfer times between an ambulance and an air ambulance.
“I got us two places for the London Marathon then this happened.
“The London Air Ambulance responded, treated him at roadside, put him into an induced coma and took him to the Royal London Hospital.
“But his recovery has been amazing and we are going to continue with the original plan.”
After his recovery, Sam deserves more than just a medal when he crosses the finish line.
Another fine mesh
NIKKI SANDERSON has just experienced every celeb’s worst nightmare.
The Hollyoaks star turned up at the GEM Appeal Winter Ball on Saturday wearing the same £200 House of CB mesh dress as Corrie star SIMON GREGSON’s wife, Emma.
Now that’s soap-worthy drama.
Le Vell's animal therapy
TROUBLED star MICHAEL LE VELL could soon be swapping Corrie for Countryfile.
I’ve learned the recovering alcholic is getting himself back on the straight and narrow by secretly volunteering at an animal rescue centre.
Michael, who plays Kevin Webster in the ITV soap, has got himself a side-job at Angel’s Rescue in Cheshire where he deals with everything from dogs and cats to rabbits and mice.
He even forked out £1,000 of his own cash for an injured horse to undergo surgery.
A source revealed: “He has taken to it brilliantly. He loves animals and this is great therapy for him. He is really into horses and has started riding too, it helps keep him off the booze. He often turns up to the Corrie studio in jodhpurs, having just come from the stables.”
He’d struggle to get his horse across the cobbles.
Cath off the pop
CORRIE’s CATHERINE TYLDESLEY has not had much luck with her singing career.
Last week I told how her debut album had charted outside the Top 200 – and now Catherine has had to lay off the booze to save her voice.
She revealed: “I’ve been told alcohol is no good for my vocal cords. I can’t drink at all any more as I have to protect my voice. I may have a festive tipple over Christmas but otherwise booze is off limits.”
Even the Christmas pud?
